2-1 WHAT IS INFORMATION REPORTING?

Information reporting is growing nationwide as Corporate America is beginning to realize that people, trained to use the shorthand machine as an input device in lieu of the QWERTY keyboard, can produce text at lightning fast speeds.

The information reporter connects a realtime cable from her shorthand machine to her computer on which text entry software has been installed. This enables the information reporter to write steno and the software translates her shorthand from steno into English in exactly the text format required by the application running on the PC.

One of the most common formats is a word processing format. The reporter can conduct all word processing functions from her shorthand machine and produce the document in a timely fashion without ever touching the keyboard or the mouse.
