Processor

Computers
manufactured since 2006 will have a clock speed of at least
1 GHZ and will be fast enough to run StenoCAT 32.
Have a 2000-2005 computer? Use
these processor guidelines. |

Storage
space
|
|
You will need at least 40 Gigabytes of storage, especially
for audio files.
|
|
|
RAM
|
|
At
least 512 MB, but more is better. |
|
|
Drives
|
|
1)
CD-RW Drive for software installation and saving
files to CD.
2) Floppy Drive (external or internal) -
used for archived files, making ASCIIs and reading diskettes
from some steno machines
|
|
|
Ports
|
|
USB
Port - You will need at least 2 USB ports to connect to
peripherals and your hardware key.
Serial
Port - If you write in realtime your writer may connect
to a serial port. Built-in serial ports are very hard to find.
You may need to get a USB/Serial adapter.

|
|
Internet
|
|
E-mail account, and High Speed Internet Connection (Cable,
DSL, etc.), especially if you are sending/receiving audio
files.
|
|
| Microphone |
|
You
may need an external microphone to use Insync audio synchronization
since most computers no longer have "built-in" microphones.
|
Extras:
|
- USB
Flash Drives for temporary storage or transferring of files
- USB
Hubs used to turn one USB hub into 3 or more USB hubs
- External
Hard Drives - for data backup.

are basic recommendations for the optimal StenoCAT 32 software
setup. StenoCAT 32 can run on many different system configurations
of the past few years.
